fullerton lighthouse

what. former lighthouse tower seen (12 November 2018)

where. Fullerton Hotel, Singapore

remarks. The Fullerton Lighthouse was a lighthouse fitted atop the then-General Post Office at Fullerton Building in 1958, replacing the Fort Canning Lighthouse. However, its function as a lighthouse became increasing limited due to the growing height of the Singapore skyline. Hence, it was eventually decommissioned in 1978. The lantern was first moved to the Singapore Maritime Museum, and later, with the closure of the museum in 2001, to an open area in front of HarbourFront (1). At the time of writing, the area housing the lantern has been boarded up for renovation purposes. Fullerton Building is now a hotel, The Fullerton Hotel, and the tower upon which the lantern sat is now a restaurant named, appropriately, The Lighthouse. The photograph was taken from Fullerton Road, in front of the Waterboat House.
