issue information. Stamps are a part of the Japanese definitive issue of 1942 - 45.

remarks. After the 1st Sino-Japanese War (1894 - 95), by the Treaty of Shimonoseki, Qing China ceded territory, including Taiwan and the Penghu Islands (Pescadores Islands), to Japan. Despite Taiwanese armed resistance and the formation of the short-lived Republic of Formosa, the Japanese successfully took over the island. Consequently, Taiwan and the Penghu Islands became a part of Japan from 1895 - 1945.
