where. Fullerton Hotel, Singapore
issue information. 1 value of set of 6 stamps, issued to commemorate heritage hotels in Singapore. All stamps in the series feature regular as well as self-adhesive versions.
remarks. The Fullerton Lighthouse was a lighthouse fitted atop the then-General Post Office at Fullerton Building in 1958, replacing the Fort Canning Lighthouse. However, its function as a lighthouse became increasing limited due to the growing height of the Singapore skyline. Hence, it was eventually decommissioned in 1978. Fullerton Building is now a hotel, The Fullerton Hotel, and the tower upon which the lantern sat is now a restaurant named, appropriately, The Lighthouse.
note. Malay for lighthouse: rumah api; Mandarin Chinese for lighthouse: 灯塔 (simplified script; dēngtǎ), 燈塔 (traditional script; dēngtǎ); Tamil for lighthouse: கலங்கரை விளக்கம் (kalaṅkarai viḷakkam)
